San Diego Padres

The Padres have won two pennants, in 1984 and 1998, lost both World Series, and taken five division titles in 57 seasons. The record is 4,217-4,789. Tony Gwynn played all twenty of his seasons here, got his 3,000th hit in a Padres uniform, and is the reason most people outside San Diego can name a Padre at all.

The best season is 1998, at 98-64, which ended in a World Series sweep by the Yankees. The worst is 1969, the first, at 52-110. Home was San Diego Stadium under three corporate names and then Petco Park from 2004.

Thirteen Hall of Famers have played here, among them Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Dave Winfield, Rollie Fingers, Goose Gossage, Ozzie Smith and Roberto Alomar — several of them briefly, on the way somewhere else. Dick Williams managed the 1984 pennant club; Bruce Bochy managed twelve seasons and 951 wins here before winning three World Series in San Francisco.
