b. February 3, 1952 · Boston Red Sox 1974–1980, California Angels 1981–1984, Baltimore Orioles 1985–1988, Detroit Tigers 1988–1989, San Diego Padres 1990

Fred Lynn won the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards in the same 1975 season, his first full year with the Boston Red Sox, a feat matched by very few players in the sport's history.

He played center field across five clubs over 17 seasons: six years in Boston, four with California, four more in Baltimore, and shorter spells in Detroit and San Diego before retiring in 1990.

He hit 306 home runs and batted .283 over 1,969 games, with 1,960 hits and 1,111 runs batted in. Four Gold Gloves came between 1975 and 1980, and he took the League Championship Series MVP award in 1982 and the All-Star Game MVP the following year.

Nine consecutive All-Star selections ran from 1975 through 1983. Born in Chicago on February 3, 1952, he batted and threw left-handed.
