Cy Young's Perfect Game
Young retires all twenty-seven Philadelphia batters at the Huntington Avenue Grounds, the first perfect game of the modern era.
The Red Sox won the World Series in 1912, 1915, 1916 and 1918, and then did not win another for 86 years. The drought ended in 2004, and three more followed in 2007, 2013 and 2018. Eight titles and 12 pennants across 118 seasons, with the two halves of that record separated by the longest wait in the club's history.
The record is 9,516 wins and 8,844 losses. The best season is 1912, at 105-47, which was also the first year at Fenway Park and the first of the early titles. Nineteen thirty-two is the floor, at 43-111. Before Fenway the club played at the Huntington Avenue Grounds, where the first World Series was held in 1903.
Thirty-eight Hall of Famers have played here, including Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Bobby Doerr, Harry Hooper, Jim Rice, Wade Boggs and David Ortiz. Joe Cronin managed for thirteen seasons from 1935 and won more games than anyone else who has, 1,071. Terry Francona managed the club that ended the drought.
