Bartolo Colón Marquee

b. May 24, 1973 · Cleveland Indians 1997–2002, Montreal Expos 2002, Chicago White Sox 2003, 2009, Anaheim Angels 2004, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2005–2007, Boston Red Sox 2008, New York Yankees 2011, Oakland Athletics 2012–2013, New York Mets 2014–2016, Atlanta Braves 2017, Minnesota Twins 2017, Texas Rangers 2018

Twenty-one seasons and twelve clubs gave him 247 wins against 188, with 2,535 strikeouts across 3,461 innings. No pitcher born in the Dominican Republic has won more: Juan Marichal finished with 243 and Pedro Martínez with 219. He won the Cy Young Award in 2005, the year he led the American League with 21 wins.

He was thirty-two then and might reasonably have been near the end. He pitched thirteen more seasons instead, led his league in shutouts in 2013 at forty, and was picked for the All-Star team in 2016 at forty-three, eighteen years after his first selection. His last appearance came in 2018, at forty-five.

In 2016 he hit a home run, the only one of his career in 299 times at bat, and it is what he is best remembered for. That is unjust to the 247 wins and entirely fair to the moment. The writers gave him five votes of 385 in 2024 and he came off the ballot after one year.
