The Mets went 40-120 in 1962, their first season and the second-heaviest losing year any club has had since 1901. Seven years later they won the World Series, having never previously finished above ninth. A second title came in 1986, from five pennants in 64 seasons at 4,899-5,227.

The best season is 1986, at 108-54, and it ended in the title. Tom Seaver pitched here from 1967 and is the reason the 1969 club had a pitching staff worth the name. The club played its first two seasons at the Polo Grounds, then Shea Stadium from 1964, and Citi Field since 2009.

Nineteen Hall of Famers have played here, among them Seaver, Mike Piazza, Gary Carter, Nolan Ryan, who was on the 1969 roster at twenty-two, Tom Glavine and Pedro Martínez. Davey Johnson managed the 1986 champions and won 595 games in seven seasons, the best rate of anyone who has managed the club.
