Milwaukee moved him into the rotation in 1982 and he went 12-7 for the club that won the American League. He relieved in the seventh game of that World Series with a one-run lead and gave it up; St. Louis scored three in the sixth and won 6-3, and the loss is his.
Nineteen seasons gave him 68 wins, 52 saves, 1,158 innings and a 3.81 earned run average across 698 appearances, of which only 73 were starts. He worked ten years in Milwaukee, three in Montreal and three in California, and he was still getting left-handed hitters out at forty-one.
He was 6-1 with a 1.55 earned run average for the 1989 Angels at thirty-seven, one of the best seasons he had. He coached pitchers for Kansas City, Boston and Philadelphia afterward. No Hall of Fame ballot has listed him.
