California Angels

Under this name the Angels played 32 seasons, won three division titles and never reached a World Series. In 1982, 1986 and every other year they got close, the season ended in the Championship Series; in 1986 they were one strike from the pennant with a two-run lead and lost the game and the next two. The record is 2,440-2,616.

Its high mark was 1982, 93 wins against 69. Two years earlier it had gone 65-95. Nolan Ryan pitched here from 1972 to 1979 and threw four of his seven no-hitters in an Angels uniform, including two in the 1973 season.

Ten Hall of Famers played here, among them Ryan, Rod Carew, Reggie Jackson, Don Sutton, Bert Blyleven and Frank Robinson. Gene Mauch managed the 1982 and 1986 clubs, and both are among the reasons he is remembered for never having won a pennant in 26 seasons of managing. Home was Anaheim Stadium, after two years as tenants at Dodger Stadium.
