George Brett's 3,000th Hit

George Brett came into the evening of September 30, 1992 four hits short of 3,000. He got all four, in five at-bats, and the fourth was the milestone. Kansas City shut out California 4–0.

Brett was thirty-nine and in his twentieth season, all with the Royals. He had hit .390 in 1980 on the way to a Most Valuable Player award, won batting titles in three different decades, and been at the center of the 1983 game in which his home run was disallowed for too much pine tar on the bat.

He played one more year and finished with 3,154 hits, 665 doubles and 317 home runs. He and Robin Yount entered the Hall of Fame together in 1999.
