Jerome Walton won National League Rookie of the Year in 1989, the season the Chicago Cubs won their division, and did it largely on a 30-game hitting streak in July and August that remains the longest by a Cubs player in the modern era.
Injuries and inconsistency took the rest. He was a part-time player by 1991, out of Chicago after 1992, and spent the following six years with five clubs, though he did hit .309 as a reserve for Cincinnati in 1995.
Born in Newnan, Georgia in 1965, Walton batted .269 with 423 hits and 58 stolen bases across ten seasons and six clubs, finishing with Tampa Bay in the expansion season of 1998.
