Chicago Cubs
The Cubs won the World Series in 1907 and 1908 and then waited 108 years for the third, which came in 2016. That is the longest gap between titles any club in the game has had. Eleven pennants and 123 seasons sit either side of it, and the record across all of them is 9,678 wins and 9,448 losses, which is very close to even.
The best season on file is 1906, at 116-36, a winning rate only two clubs of the 1880s have bettered, and it ended without a title: the Cubs lost the World Series to the White Sox. The worst is 1962, at 59-103. The club played at West Side Park II before moving to Wrigley Field, where it has been since.
Thirty-eight Hall of Famers have played here, among them Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Ryne Sandberg, Gabby Hartnett, and the infield of Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers and Frank Chance. Chance also managed the club to both of the early titles, going 768-389. Charlie Grimm managed it across three separate spells and won more games, 946.
