Bobby Darwin Marquee

Darwin reached the majors as a pitcher with the Los Angeles Angels in 1962, then returned as an outfielder with the Dodgers. Minnesota finally gave him a regular job in 1972. Over his first three full seasons there he hit 65 home runs, including 25 with 152 hits and 94 runs batted in during 1974.

Nine seasons produced 559 hits, 83 home runs, 328 runs batted in and a .251 average across 646 games. His pitching record covered only four appearances and seven innings, with six strikeouts and an 0-1 record; the outfield, where he played 538 games, became the lasting part of his career.

The Twins sent him to Milwaukee during 1975, beginning a closing stretch that also took him to Boston and the Cubs. He drove in 90 runs in 1973 and 80 in 1972, making his three-year peak unusually concentrated within a career that had begun a decade earlier. He finished with Chicago in 1977, at thirty-four.
