Detroit took him tenth overall in 2005 and traded him to Florida two years later in the deal for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis, one of the larger prospect-for-star trades of the era. He never became the star Florida hoped for, hitting .251 across four seasons there before moving on.
He found his most consistent stretch late, hitting .267 with 15 home runs and 24 stolen bases for Atlanta in 2015, and continued as a valuable fourth outfielder into his early thirties. Fifteen seasons gave him 973 hits, 173 doubles, 187 stolen bases and a .254 average across 1,096 games in the outfield for eleven organizations.
He won a World Series with Houston in 2017. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
