Detroit Tigers

Detroit · 1901–2025

The Tigers won the pennant in 1907, 1908 and 1909 with Ty Cobb in the outfield and lost all three World Series. The titles came later — 1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984 — from 11 pennants in 125 seasons and a record of 9,763-9,642.

The best season is 1934, at 101-53, which ended in a World Series loss and was followed by the first title the next year. The worst is 2003, at 43-119, among the four heaviest losing seasons any club has had since 1901. Home was Bennett Park, then Navin Field on the same corner, which became Briggs Stadium and then Tiger Stadium, and since 2000 it has been Comerica Park.

Twenty-four Hall of Famers have played here, among them Cobb, Al Kaline, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Sam Crawford, Hal Newhouser and Alan Trammell. Sparky Anderson managed for seventeen seasons and won 1,331 games, more than anyone else has for the club, and the 1984 title was his second in two leagues.
