Eddie Collins's 3,000th Hit

The game in Detroit on June 2, 1925 finished 16–15, and Eddie Collins had three hits and three runs in it for the losing side. His second hit of the day was the 3,000th of a career that had started in 1906.

Collins was thirty-eight and managing the Chicago White Sox as well as playing second base for them. He had been one of the honest men on the 1919 club whose teammates conspired to lose the World Series, and he had already won three championships with Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics before that.

He kept playing until 1930 and finished with 3,315 hits, 741 stolen bases and 1,499 walks against just a .333 average. His Hall of Fame election came in 1939.
