Aurelio Rodríguez Marquee

b. December 28, 1947 · California Angels 1967–1970, Washington Senators 1970, Detroit Tigers 1971–1979, San Diego Padres 1980, New York Yankees 1980–1981, Chicago White Sox 1982–1983, Baltimore Orioles 1983

Brooks Robinson had won the Gold Glove at third base every year from 1960 through 1975. In 1976 it went to Rodríguez, who was in his sixth season in Detroit and had one of the strongest arms anyone had seen at the position. Nobody else interrupted Robinson; the award went straight from him to Rodríguez to Graig Nettles.

Seventeen seasons gave him 2,017 games, 1,570 hits, 124 home runs, 648 runs batted in and a .237 average, with 1,983 of those games at third base. He hit 19 home runs and drove in 76 for the 1970 Washington Senators, his one full season there, and was traded to Detroit that winter.

He played out the end with the Yankees, the White Sox and Baltimore, then managed and coached in Mexico for years. He was standing on a sidewalk in Detroit in September 2000 when a car left the road and struck him. He was fifty-two.
