Darrell Evans played third base for the Atlanta Braves for eight seasons before a trade to San Francisco, and later moved to first base for a five-year run in Detroit before a final season back in Atlanta, retiring in 1989.

He hit 414 home runs and batted .248 over 2,687 games, driving in 1,354 runs and drawing 1,605 walks, a twenty-one-season career built on patience as much as power.

He was named a Sporting News All-Star in 1973, the same year as one of his two All-Star selections.

The other came a decade later, in 1983. He was born in Pasadena, California, on May 26, 1947, and batted left-handed while throwing right.
