Jones carried almost all of his workload in 1892, split between Louisville and Washington. He made 22 appearances, started 20 and went 5-14 with a 3.42 earned run average across 173 innings. He completed 16 games and threw one shutout.
Four seasons gave him a 7-15 record, 65 strikeouts and a 3.73 earned run average in 200 innings. Jones started 24 of his 26 appearances and completed 18. His only major-league shutout came during that busy 1892 season.
Pittsburgh gave Jones his first opportunity in 1889, and he won his only appearance with a complete game. He returned for his full 1892 campaign, then made another complete-game winning start for Philadelphia in 1894. Nine seasons outside the majors followed before two final appearances with Detroit in 1903. The gaps stretched his record across fifteen calendar years. He died in 1941, at seventy-one.
