Billy Sullivan Marquee

Billy Sullivan was the son of the Billy Sullivan who caught for the Hitless Wonders, and he played twelve seasons of his own, mostly behind the plate but with long spells at first and third base. Father and son both appeared for the Chicago White Sox.

He hit .289 for his career, considerably better than his father managed, and had his best years with Cleveland and the St. Louis Browns in the late 1930s. He was Detroit's catcher for the 1940 pennant winners and appeared in that World Series.

Born in Chicago in 1910 and educated at Notre Dame, Sullivan collected 820 hits across 962 games. He was eighty-three when he died, in January 1994.
