Cincinnati Reds

Cincinnati · 1890–2025

The Reds have won 9,998 games and lost 9,995, which after 130 seasons puts them three games above even — closer to level than any club in the game bar Toronto, which has played half as long. Five World Series titles: 1919, 1940, 1975, 1976 and 1990, from nine pennants.

The 1919 title is the one people argue about, because the White Sox threw the series; Cincinnati went 96-44 that year, which is still the best season on file. Against that, 1934 brought 52 wins and 99 defeats. The clubs of 1975 and 1976 won back-to-back titles and are the reason the phrase Big Red Machine exists.

Thirty-eight Hall of Famers have played here, among them Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Pérez, Barry Larkin, Edd Roush, Ernie Lombardi, Bid McPhee and Ken Griffey Jr. Sparky Anderson managed the 1970s clubs and went 863-586; Bill McKechnie managed the 1940 champions. Home has been League Park, the Palace of the Fans, Crosley Field, Riverfront Stadium and Great American Ball Park.
