Bill Hinchman Marquee

Hinchman returned to the majors with Pittsburgh in 1915 after five seasons away and immediately had his best year. He hit .307 with 177 hits, five home runs and 77 runs batted in. In 1916 he hit .315 with 175 hits and led the National League with 16 triples.

Ten seasons gave him 793 hits, 128 doubles, 69 triples, 369 runs batted in and a .261 average across 908 games. He played 750 games in the outfield, with shorter stretches at first base and shortstop. He stole 85 bases, including 22 for Cleveland in 1909.

Hinchman began with Cincinnati in 1905 and 1906, then spent three seasons with Cleveland. His return with Pittsburgh produced six more major-league seasons through 1920. The 1937 Hall of Fame ballot gave him one vote of 201. He died in 1963, at seventy-nine.
