Andy Seminick Marquee

He came up in 1943 for a Philadelphia club that was calling itself the Blue Jays and lost 90 games a year. By 1949 he was hitting 24 home runs in 109 games, and he hit 24 more in 1950 while catching 130 for the club Philadelphia called the Whiz Kids. He was chosen for the All-Star team in 1949.

Fifteen seasons gave him 953 hits, 164 home runs, 556 runs batted in, 582 walks and a .243 average, with 1,213 games behind the plate. He caught Robin Roberts through the years that made Roberts, and he was the one Philadelphia hitter of the period who scared anybody.

Cincinnati had him from 1952 to 1955, when the club changed its own name to the Redlegs, and Philadelphia took him back for two more years. He managed in the minor leagues into his sixties. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 2004, at eighty-three.
