Born June 23, 1900
Wylie, TX, USA
Bill Harris pitched two seasons for Cincinnati in the early 1920s, disappeared into the minor leagues for six years, and came back with Pittsburgh in 1931 at thirty. He then pitched four more seasons there and one for Boston in 1938.
The Pirates used him as a swingman, 37 starts among 121 career appearances, and he finished thirteen of them and saved eight more. A minor league career of considerable length ran alongside and around all of it, which was the ordinary shape of a pitching life before the draft, when a club could hold a player's rights indefinitely.
Born in Wylie, Texas in 1900, Harris compiled a 24-22 record with a 3.92 earned run average, and was sixty-five at his death in August 1965.
