Bob Grim Marquee

b. March 8, 1930 · New York Yankees 1954–1958, Kansas City Athletics 1958–1959, 1962, Cleveland Indians 1960, Cincinnati Reds 1960, St. Louis Cardinals 1960

Bob Grim won twenty games as a rookie for the 1954 New York Yankees and took the American League Rookie of the Year award. No pitcher since has won twenty in his first season while making as few as twenty starts.

Arm trouble arrived almost immediately after. He was moved to the bullpen, and in 1957 he led the league with nineteen saves and made his only All-Star team, but he was never again a dependable starter. The Yankees traded him to Kansas City in 1958.

Born in New York City in 1930, Grim pitched eight seasons for five clubs, finishing 61-41 with 37 saves. He died at sixty-six, on October 23, 1996.
