Waco, TX, USA
He was a starting pitcher for Baltimore for six years and not much good at it, and became one of the best left-handed relievers of his time from 1996: 900 appearances, 20 seasons, an 87-70 record and a 4.08 earned run average across 1,187 innings.
In 2010, at forty, he had a 2.29 earned run average for Cincinnati and was an All-Star for the first time, having pitched thirty-three consecutive scoreless appearances that season. The following year he pitched for Texas and then St. Louis and won the World Series against the club that had released him in August.
He was from Waco, Texas, and was drafted in the second round in 1988. The 2017 ballot gave him no votes at all.
