Tiefenauer's best season came for Milwaukee in 1964. He appeared 46 times, went 4-6 with 13 saves and posted a 3.21 earned run average across 73 innings. He struck out 48 that year. The appearances, wins and saves were career highs.
Ten seasons gave him a 9-25 record, 23 saves, 204 strikeouts and a 3.84 earned run average in 316 innings. All 179 appearances came in relief. His other substantial workload was 85 innings across 43 games for the Houston Colt .45s in 1962.
St. Louis brought Tiefenauer up in 1952, and his career later included Cleveland, Houston, Milwaukee and the Yankees. He returned to Cleveland in 1967 after a year outside the majors, then made nine final appearances for the Cubs in 1968. He died in 2000, at seventy.
