Alvin Davis Marquee

He hit 27 home runs, drove in 116 and drew 97 walks as a rookie in 1984 and won the award with 25 of the 28 first-place votes, for a Seattle club in its eighth season that had never finished above fourth. He hit 29 home runs in 1987 and .305 in 1989.

Nine seasons gave him 1,189 hits, 160 home runs, 683 runs batted in, 685 walks and a .280 average — more walks than almost anyone of his generation relative to playing time, and an on-base percentage of .381.

A back injury and then a lost swing finished him at thirty-one; he hit .199 in 1992 and never played again. He was the first player Seattle put in its Hall of Fame. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
