Garret Anderson

Garret Anderson Marquee

b. June 30, 1972 · California Angels 1994–1996, Anaheim Angels 1997–2004, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2005–2008, Atlanta Braves 2009, Los Angeles Dodgers 2010

He had 2,529 hits, 522 doubles, 1,365 runs batted in and a .293 average across seventeen seasons, fifteen of them with the Angels, for whom he has more hits, more doubles and more runs batted in than anyone else. He led the American League in doubles in 2002 and 2003.

He was the most valuable player of the 2003 All-Star Game and won the home run contest the night before, which for a hitter with 287 career home runs was not the expected result. He drove in three runs in the seventh game of the 2002 World Series, the only title the franchise has won.

He walked 429 times in 8,640 at bats, a rate that held the rest of the record down and is the reason a man with 2,529 hits got a single vote of 440 in 2016. He died in April 2026, at fifty-three.
