Chili Davis played center field for the San Francisco Giants before moving to the outfield and eventually designated hitter for the Angels, the Twins, the Royals and the Yankees, retiring in 1999.
He hit 350 home runs and drove in 1,372 runs over 2,436 games, batting .274 with 2,380 hits and 1,240 runs scored, a nineteen-season career built on consistent switch-hitting power. He also pitched once, in a lopsided game, without allowing a run.
He took the Outstanding DH Award in 1991, recognition of his second career as a full-time designated hitter.
His three All-Star selections came in 1984, 1986 and 1994. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on January 17, 1960, and switch-hit while throwing right-handed.
