Pearson played 146 games for Washington as a rookie in 1958, collecting 146 hits, scoring 63 runs and winning the American League Rookie of the Year award. He later found his best stretch with the expansion Angels, leading the league with 115 runs in 1962 while drawing 95 walks.
His 1963 season brought an All-Star selection and fourteenth place in Most Valuable Player voting. Pearson hit .304 with career highs of 176 hits and 92 walks, scored 92 runs and stole 17 bases. It followed his 160-game season with another year of at least 154 games.
Nine seasons gave him 831 hits, 130 doubles, 485 runs, 477 walks and a .270 average across 988 games in the outfield. He moved from Washington to Baltimore during 1959 and joined Los Angeles in 1961. Pearson played his final two seasons after the club became the California Angels and died in 2023, at eighty-eight.
