Born December 17, 1957
Los Angeles, CA, USA
Boston traded him to New York before the 1986 season and he went 18-5 with a 2.57 earned run average for a club that won 108 games and the World Series, finishing fourth in the Cy Young voting. He had led the American League with five shutouts in 1984 and had finished third in the 1981 Rookie of the Year vote with 36 points of 140.
Fifteen seasons gave him 115 wins against 98, a 3.65 earned run average, 1,884 innings and 16 shutouts. He cut the tip off the middle finger of his pitching hand with electric hedge clippers in September 1988 and came back the following spring.
On March 22, 1993, in his first spring with Cleveland, he was in a boat on a Florida lake with Steve Olin and Tim Crews when it hit a dock. Olin and Crews were killed. Ojeda was badly hurt, pitched seven games that season and two more for the Yankees in 1994, and was done. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him.
