He went 12-6 with a 2.48 earned run average in 1984, the lowest in the league, and led it with four shutouts. A shoulder operation the following spring cost him almost two years and the rotation; he came back as a reliever and was better at it.
Atlanta traded for him on August 28, 1991, with the Braves in a race they had no business being in. He saved eleven games in fifteen appearances with a 1.40 earned run average the rest of the way, and on September 11 he finished a combined no-hitter against San Diego. Atlanta won the division by one game.
Fifteen seasons gave him 56 wins, 74 saves, 1,057 innings and a 3.11 earned run average across 503 appearances. He is from Cambiaso in the Dominican Republic and pitched until he was thirty-seven. No Hall of Fame ballot has listed him.
