On May 11, 1996 he no-hit Colorado, the first no-hitter any Marlins pitcher had thrown, in his first season with the club. He went 16-12 with a 2.93 earned run average that year and won the World Series with Florida the next.
He had won one with Toronto in 1993 as well, and he pitched seven seasons for the Mets after Florida sold off the 1997 champions. His best year was 1998: 17-6 with a 2.47 earned run average for a New York club that won 88 games.
Nineteen seasons gave him 162 wins against 132, a 3.80 earned run average and 1,974 strikeouts. He was a New Jersey left-hander with a cutter, control trouble early and blisters throughout, and he pitched until he was thirty-nine. He won the Roberto Clemente Award in 2000. The 2011 ballot gave him four votes of 581.
