Dessens made 140 career starts, including 30 for Cincinnati in 2002, when he worked 178 innings with a 3.03 earned run average. He started 30 more games after moving to Arizona in 2003, then shifted almost entirely to relief and pitched for six additional organizations out of the bullpen.
Fifteen seasons gave him 52 wins, 5 saves, 1,174 innings and a 4.44 earned run average across 441 appearances for nine clubs. His two complete games included one shutout, and he struck out 693 batters. He is from Hermosillo, Mexico, and pitched for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic.
He finished with the Mets in 2010 at thirty-nine. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
