Bill Almon Marquee

Almon became San Diego's regular shortstop in 1977 and collected a career-high 160 hits across 155 games, adding 75 runs and 20 stolen bases. Four years later with the White Sox he hit .301 in 103 games, the highest average of his career, and received Most Valuable Player votes.

Fifteen seasons gave him 846 hits, 138 doubles, 128 stolen bases, 296 runs batted in and a .254 average. He played 616 games at shortstop, 212 at third base, 161 in the outfield and 102 at second, becoming increasingly versatile after leaving San Diego.

Almon played fifteen consecutive major-league seasons from 1974 through 1988. Montreal sent him to the Mets during 1980, beginning a path through Chicago, Oakland and Pittsburgh before a second Mets stint in 1987. He finished with Philadelphia the following year, completing a career across seven organizations.
