He started 65 games in his first five seasons with mixed results, then Texas and Florida turned him into a reliever in the mid-1990s. New York signed him for 1998 and he had a 2.38 earned run average in 73 games, then 10-5 the next year for the club that reached the League Championship Series.
Fifteen seasons gave him 29 wins, 9 saves, 1,011 innings and a 3.91 earned run average across 665 appearances, with 71 starts early and relief work for the rest. He pitched in the 2000 World Series for the Mets against the Yankees, which New York lost in five.
He pitched for nine organizations across fifteen years and finished with the Angels in 2002 at thirty-nine. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
