He was on the mound to retire the last batter of Boston's four-game sweep in the 2004 World Series, the championship that ended eighty-six years without one, having pitched for the club in its dramatic comeback from a three-games-to-none deficit against the Yankees that same October.
Sixteen seasons gave him 39 wins, 25 saves, 774 innings and a 4.59 earned run average across 882 appearances, almost all of them in relief for a left-hander who rarely faced more than one or two batters at a time. He pitched for ten organizations, never staying more than four seasons anywhere.
He finished with Colorado in 2009 at thirty-nine. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
