Shouse's best season came with Milwaukee in 2008. He appeared 69 times, went 5-1 with two saves and posted a 2.81 earned run average across 51 innings. The appearances and wins were career highs.
Ten seasons gave him a 13-10 record, six saves, 233 strikeouts and a 3.72 earned run average in 350 innings. All 467 appearances came in relief, and he never completed a game. His first substantial season was 2003 with Texas, when he made 62 appearances with a 3.10 average.
Pittsburgh brought Shouse up in 1993, followed by brief returns with Boston in 1998 and Kansas City in 2002. He finally established a continuous role with Texas from 2003 through 2006, then spent three years with Milwaukee. A final 45-game season for Tampa Bay in 2009 closed his career.
