Doug Brocail Marquee

b. May 16, 1967 · San Diego Padres 1992–1994, 2006–2007, Houston Astros 1995–1996, 2008–2009, Detroit Tigers 1997–2000, Texas Rangers 2004–2005

In 2001 doctors discovered an aortic aneurysm and performed emergency open-heart surgery, and he did not pitch in the majors again until 2004, three years later, at thirty-six. He came back to pitch five more full seasons as a middle reliever.

Fifteen seasons gave him 52 wins, 9 saves, 880 innings and a 4.00 earned run average across 626 appearances for four clubs, with 42 starts early in his career before he moved to the bullpen full-time.

He finished with Texas in 2009 at forty-two, then coached pitching in the major leagues for over a decade after. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
