The Braves-Padres Brawl

On August 12, 1984, Atlanta Braves pitcher Pascual Perez opened the game by hitting San Diego Padres leadoff hitter Alan Wiggins with his first pitch. San Diego's pitchers spent the rest of the afternoon trying to hit Perez back, touching off a string of bench-clearing brawls at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The Padres won 5–3.

The retaliation stemmed from bad blood between the teams earlier that season, and umpires ejected multiple players and both managers as the fighting recurred inning after inning. It remains one of the most cited brawls in baseball history for how long the hostilities dragged on.

Perez, known for his flamboyant delivery and colorful personality, pitched in the majors for parts of eleven seasons across five teams.
