Tomlin's busiest season came from San Diego's bullpen in 1977. He appeared 76 times, went 4-4 with three saves and posted a 3.01 earned run average across 101 innings. His 55 strikeouts were also a career high.
Across thirteen major-league seasons in all, he had a 25-12 record, 12 saves, 278 strikeouts and a 3.82 earned run average in 511 innings. He started only one of his 409 appearances and never completed a game. His best average was 2.84 across 73 innings in 1976.
Cincinnati brought Tomlin up in 1972 and sent him to San Diego in 1974. He returned to the Reds for three seasons from 1978 through 1980, then made one appearance for Montreal in 1982. Brief Pittsburgh stints followed before seven final games for the Expos in 1986.
