Colorado opened Coors Field on April 26, 1995, and he hit a home run in the first inning of the first game played there. He came back the next year to hit .324 with 184 hits and 53 stolen bases, the most in the league, and won a Silver Slugger at second base.
Fifteen seasons gave him 1,731 hits, 996 runs, 465 stolen bases, 660 walks and a .283 average. He led the National League in triples in 1995 with nine, which tells you what a park at altitude does to a fast man's numbers, and he was caught stealing 168 times against those 465 steals.
Six clubs employed him after Colorado traded him in 1997, and he was still stealing 30 bases at thirty-five. His son Eric Young Jr. led the National League in steals himself in 2013. The 2012 ballot gave him one vote of 573.
