He went 10-9 with a 2.25 earned run average in 1983, the lowest in the league, and was chosen for the All-Star team — where Fred Lynn hit the first grand slam in the game's fifty-year history off him, in the third inning, in front of a crowd that had a moment before been cheering his selection.
Twelve seasons gave him 59 wins against 67, a 3.66 earned run average, 1,078 innings and 152 starts for four clubs. Elbow surgery in 1985 cost him most of two seasons and he was a league-average starter and reliever for the rest of his career rather than the pitcher his one great year suggested.
He finished with the White Sox in 1995 at thirty-seven. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
