New York Black Yankees

The Black Yankees played 17 seasons and never won a pennant. The recorded record is 184-383, which is the poorest of any Negro Leagues club in this archive, and rests on surviving box scores rather than a complete count of games played.

The club rented Yankee Stadium when the Yankees were away, which is where the name came from, and also played at Dyckman Oval and Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson. It was owned for much of its life by Bojangles Robinson, the dancer, in partnership with a white booking agent — an arrangement common in the eastern leagues and one that put scheduling in the hands of people whose interest was in gate receipts rather than pennants.

Three Hall of Famers appear on its rosters — Willie Wells, Mule Suttles and Satchel Paige — all briefly, near the ends or edges of their careers. The club folded with the Negro National League after 1948.
