Tex Burnett Marquee

b. December 24, 1899 · Pittsburgh Keystones 1922, Indianapolis ABCs 1923, New York Lincoln Giants 1924, 1927–1928, Harrisburg Giants 1925, Atlantic City Bacharach Giants 1925, Brooklyn Royal Giants 1926–1927, Homestead Grays 1931, 1934, Harlem Stars 1931, New York Black Yankees 1932, 1941, Baltimore Sox 1933, Brooklyn Eagles 1935, Newark Eagles 1936–1937

Tex Burnett caught for fourteen clubs that the record can name between 1922 and 1941, which by the standards of eastern Black baseball was normal rather than remarkable — rosters were small, seasons were short, and a catcher who could be relied on found work wherever a club had lost one.

The Brooklyn Royal Giants, the New York Lincoln Giants, the Homestead Grays, the Black Yankees, the Brooklyn Eagles and the Newark Eagles all had him, several more than once. He also managed briefly late in his career.

Born in Houston on Christmas Eve 1899, Burnett batted .255 with 220 hits across 283 recorded games. He was sixty-two when he died, in February 1962.
