Atlantic City Bacharach Giants

The Bacharach Giants won the Eastern Colored League pennant in 1926 and 1927 and lost the Negro World Series both times to the Chicago American Giants. The recorded record across seven seasons is 209-205, resting on surviving box scores rather than a complete count of games.

The club was named after Harry Bacharach, the mayor of Atlantic City, who backed it — a Black club carrying a white politician's name was a straightforward transaction of the era, and it bought the use of a ballpark and a measure of protection.

Two Hall of Famers played here: John Henry Lloyd, who also managed for two seasons, and Ben Taylor. Dick Lundy, the shortstop, managed both pennant clubs and went 156-125. Bacharach Park was its ground. The club folded in the Depression, as most of the eastern clubs did.
