Perry Hall Marquee

Perry Hall arrived as a pitcher in 1921 and, within two seasons, had stopped being one. The surviving record shows him at second base, third base, right field and catcher across the following fifteen years, which is what happened to a pitcher whose arm went in an era with no other use for him.

The bat kept him employed: .317 across the 70 games for which box scores survive, a figure inflated by the small sample but a good deal better than most utility men managed. He appeared for the Detroit Stars, the St. Louis Giants and Stars, the Milwaukee Bears, Memphis, Birmingham, Cleveland and the Bacharach Giants.

Born in Hogansville, Georgia in 1898, Hall lived to ninety-four, dying in February 1993.
