St. Louis Giants
The St. Louis Giants were one of the eight clubs that founded Rube Foster's Negro National League in 1920. The archive records 146-142 across six seasons, which covers a fraction of what was played: the club existed from 1911 and spent most of that time independent, when results reached print irregularly.
It was sold in 1922 and renamed the St. Louis Stars, which went on to win three pennants with Cool Papa Bell, Willie Wells and Mule Suttles. This archive holds that club separately.
Two Hall of Famers played here: Oscar Charleston, who was nineteen when he arrived, and Ben Taylor. Home grounds included Giants Park and a college diamond, the club having no ground of its own until the Stars built one.
