Detroit Stars

The Stars were a charter club of the Negro National League that Rube Foster founded in 1920 and played 13 seasons at a recorded 523-428, without winning a pennant. Those totals rest on the box scores that survive rather than a complete count of games played.

Turkey Stearnes played here for most of the 1920s and is the club's reason for being remembered: he is in the Hall of Fame, led the league in home runs repeatedly, and is one of the players whose statistics were folded into the major-league record when Major League Baseball recognized the Negro Leagues in December 2020.

Six Hall of Famers played here in all, among them Stearnes, Andy Cooper, Pete Hill, who managed the first three seasons, Cristóbal Torriente and Oscar Charleston. Home was Mack Park until it burned in 1929, and then Hamtramck Stadium, which still stands and is one of very few Negro Leagues parks that do.
