Pepper Daniels caught for the Detroit Stars for seven seasons in the 1920s, the club's strongest period, when they contended in the Negro National League without ever quite winning it. He was the regular receiver for most of that run.
A season with the Harrisburg Giants interrupted it, and after a return to Detroit in 1930 he finished with the Chicago Columbia Giants and a final year with the Brooklyn Eagles in 1935. He drew 109 walks in the surviving record, a good number for a catcher of the era.
Born in Valdosta, Georgia in 1902, Daniels batted .241 with 259 hits and 131 runs batted in across 356 recorded games. He died in September 1978, at seventy-six.
