Lefty Calhoun threw left-handed, which was scarce enough in the Negro Leagues to keep him employed by roughly a dozen clubs, several of them the same franchise under a new city's name — the St. Louis Stars became the St. Louis-New Orleans Stars and then the Harrisburg-St. Louis Stars while he pitched for them.
His one East-West All-Star selection came in 1940. He also appeared for the Memphis Red Sox, the Indianapolis ABCs, the New York Black Yankees, the Philadelphia Stars, the Clowns and the Cleveland Buckeyes.
Born in Union City, Tennessee in 1911, Calhoun compiled a 14-20 record with 16 complete games in the surviving record, and was sixty-five at his death in October 1976.
